Johnson Edges MMA For NAC Win 68-66

JOHNSON, Vt. (February 5, 2011) – Johnson State came up with a defensive stop to end a back-and-forth North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's basketball contest on Saturday afternoon to propel the Badgers to a 68-66 win over visiting Maine Maritime Academy.  Johnson improves to 5-14 overall, 2-7 NAC while Maine Maritime drops to 8-11, 3-6 NAC.

The Badgers shot 49% from the field on the day and 55% in the second half while also knocking down 17 of their 21 free throws and only surrendering six turnovers on the day.

Seniors Rob Key (New Britain, Conn./New Britain) and Ian Passino (Peru, N.Y./Peru) each hit big shots down the stretch and finished with 16 and 12 points respectively.  Sophomore point guard Andy Bousono (Philadelphia, Penn./Nueva Esperanza) provided a big spark of the Johnson bench scoring 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting and collecting a pair of steals.  Junior Alen Turan (Essex, Vt./Essex)scored eight points and hauled down a game-high eight rebounds for JSC.

MMA was led by junior Paul Campbell (Camden, Maine) and freshman Dom Drake (Brewer, Maine) who scored 15 points apiece.  Junior Shawn Dostie (Bowdoinham, Maine) added 14 points while classmate Sam Bell (Calais, Maine) came through 13 including a 3-for-3 3-point shooting effort.

Johnson will host Lyndon State College on Tuesday night in their next contest at 5:30 pm while Maine Maritime moves on to host Husson University also on Tuesday at 5:30 pm.
