Box Score

CASTINE, Maine – With the full-throat of the Midshipmen Under Guidance behind them, Maine Maritime Academy roared to a 3-0 sweep of Maine-Fort Kent in volleyball Friday night, setting the tone for Homecoming Weekend in Castine. The sweep was the 11th of the season for the Mariners (12-1), who piled up 17 aces at the Bengals' (3-4) expense.

Five different Mariners put at least one ace on the stat sheet, but it was Chelsea Ward (Homer, Alaska) that gave the guests fits. She sent eight serves to the floor, including a string of six down the stretch of the first game. Melissa Lail (Elizabeth, Colo.) served up three aces, while Jennifer Dixon (Ellicott City, Md.) recorded a pair. Dixon had 24 assists and six digs on the night, while Lail led the team in kills with a dozen on 16 attacks.

Sydney Robertson (Barnstead, N.H.) posted eight kills on 12 swings, while Ward added six on 11 attacks.

The Bengals, plagued by 18 errors between their attacks and serves, rallied for well-played points in the final game. Elsa Gelagay (San Jose, Calif.) recorded seven kills and Maliesha Caesar (Cayon, St. Kitts) posted five. Savannah Ash (Waiaula, Hawaii) set up 10 kills, while Megan Land (Salinas, Calif) offered three aces, three digs and three assists.

The Mariners return to action at home next Saturday for a pair of North Atlantic Conference Contests.
