Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine – Bowdoin College handed Maine Maritime a 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-12) setback in volleyball Tuesday evening, ending the Mariners' (12-2) winning streak at five matches. The Polar Bears (11-1) extended their own winning streak to 10 matches in the process.
Bowdoin, which posted its fifth-straight sweep, tied a program record for victories matching the effort of the Polar Bears 2006 team.
Emese Gaal delivered six services aces for the Polar Bears while also earning seven digs. Ellie Brennan and Hillary Cederna led Bowdoin with eight kills apiece while Kristin Hanczor had seven kills. Sophia Cornew paced the squad with 30 assists, while Jillian Berkman had 11 digs.
The Mariners got seven kills from Sydney Robertson (Barnstead, N.H.) and five more from Chelsea Ward (Homer, Alaska), while Jennifer Dixon (Ellicott City, Md.) chimed in with 13 assists. Lauren Sakahara (Bellvue, Wash.) recorded a dozen digs.
Maine Maritime will look to get back into the win column this weekend when Castleton and Green Mountain visit Smith Gymnasium for a North Atlantic Conference tri-match.
