Women's Cross Country Seventh at Farmington

FARMINGTON, Maine -- The University of New England women's cross country team took first place at the University of Maine at Farmington Invitational Saturday at Mt. Blue High School. Maine Maritime Academy finished in seventh place in the nine-team field.

UNE had five runners finish in the top eight to register 24 points. Machias' Paige Wiechman won the 5K race with a time of 21:38 with the Nor'Easters Colleen Ahern (21:46) and Annelise Donahue (21:51), as well as Husson's Alecia Palmer (21:51) close behind. Jess Partlow of UNE came in fifth at 22:21. There were 69 runners in the field.

Emily Fanning (New Boston, N.H.) crossed 33rd to pace the Mariners with a time of 27:00. Jane Allred (Morrill, Maine) finished 52nd in 29:02. Kara Wood (Otisfield, Maine) finished 65th in 37:52, while Ashley Burnett (Danville, N.H.) and Erica Taylor (Mesquite, Texas) crossed 67th and 68th with respective marks of 37:52 and 37:55.

Husson University finished second at 53 points followed by the host Beavers in third with 92. University of Maine at Machias (123), St. Joseph's (Me.) College (132), University of Maine at Presque Isle (142) and Maine Maritime Academy (180) rounded out the scoring field. Unity and Thomas did not score in the event.

MMA returns to action next Saturday at the University of New England Invitational.
