Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Kim Pratt scored a pair of goals, but Jenny Guzman's marker in the 35th minute was all of the offense Maine-Machias needed to knock off Maine Maritime in women's soccer on Wednesday.
Guzman finished a deep cross set by Erin O'Connor in the left corner, beating a sprawling Taylor O'Malley (Middletown, R.I.) at 34:13. It stood up as the game winner with the Mariners (0-3) failing to light the scoreboard for the third time in as many matches this season.
Five minutes later, the Clippers (1-0) doubled their lead when Pratt knocked home the first of her pair, finishing a cross sent in from the left by Emma Legallais. The pass squirted under a challenging O'Malley and was cleaned up by Pratt.
Pratt added her second at 57:24 on a feed from the right corner sent in by Cayla Thomas. Thomas struck on her own 1:16 later when she sent in a cross that slipped through the hands of Kelsie Hilton (Monmouth), who worked the final 45 for the Mariners.
Machias outshot their hosts 14-4. O'Malley recorded one save in the first half, while Hilton turned away five in the second half.
The Mariners return to action on Saturday at Maine-Presque Isle.
