Mariners Fall at Lyndon

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Ben Sackett scored 14 points – including the 1,000th of his career as Lyndon defeated Maine Maritime Academy 81-56 Saturday. The win was the first of the year for the Hornets.

With Lyndon leading by a comfortable margin, Sackett drilled one of his trademark threes from the top of the key to surpass the milestone. Jason Gray continued his standout play of late with 28 points while Devyn Baranauskas added 12 points, 10 assists and five steals.

Steve Gantt tossed in 11 points off the bench for Lyndon (1-13, 1-7) and Asa Smith grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.

Shawn Dostie collected 15 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots for the Mariners (2-12, 1-7) and Tyler Pineo chipped in 13 points, including nine from beyond the three-point arc. Andy Ball and Benjamin Russell had 10 points each in the loss and Russell handed out a team-high five assists.
