Mariners Fall to Spartans

CASTINE, MAINE--Castleton scored a pair of goals in both halves to knock off Maine Maritime 4-0 in a North Atlantic Conference game Sunday at Ritchie Field. The Spartans remained perfect in the NAC at 7-0 and are 11-3-1 overall while the Mariners fell to 2-4-1 NAC, 5-8-1 overall. The loss snapped a two game winning streak for Maine Maritime.

Mallory Costello netted both of Castleton's goals in the first half. Her first came at the 1:35 mark before she headed in a corner kick from Jenna Bostwick at 36:07. Sami Ritter headed in a pass from Sarah Ethier to give Castleton a 3-0 in the second half and Kelsey Lenney scored at 85:17.

The Spartans outshot Maine Maritime 36-2 and didn't allow a shot on goal. Mariners' keeper Taylor O'Malley finished with 14 saves.

Maine Maritime returns to action 5 p.m., Wednesday, at Thomas.
