HENNIKER, N.H. – Maine Maritime finished in ninth place among the 10 teams running for the North Atlantic Conference Championship at New England College Saturday morning. Husson University captured the league title. Colby-Sawyer finished in second place, ten points shy of the leaders, while the University of Maine at Farmington grabbed the third spot.
Husson University's Alecia Palmer earned NAC Women's Cross-Country Runner of the Year finishing first overall. She ran the five-kilometer race in 19:32. New England College's Rachel Orlando finished in a close second with a time of 19:45, earning her the NAC Women's Cross-Country Rookie Runner of the Year honors.
Gabrielle Wells (Kittery, Maine) posted the top time for Maine Maritime, logging a 24:28 for the 39th scoring position and 48th place overall. There were 78 runners in the women's race. Samantha DePlanche (Dover, N.H.) placed 53rd overall in 24:44, while Virginia Tolbert (Lisbon, Maine) took 55th in 24:52. Elin Sonesson (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) ran a 26:25 for 67th place and Alice Stenquist (Bath, Maine) clocked a 26:51 for 69th.
Brianne Dunn (Colby-Sawyer/20:05), Emily Urquhart (Colby-Sawyer/20:06), Molly Frankinburger (Husson/20:34), Kateri Jeffery (Husson/20:36) Cassie Tricou (Lyndon State/20:39) and Theresa Martin (Husson/20:44) joined Palmer and Orlando on the All-NAC First Team.
Mariah Eilers (Castleton/20:53), Emily Davis (Colby-Sawyer/20:56), Caila Walker (Colby-Sawyer/21:11), Selena Sykes (Maine Farmington/21:15), Farren Welzel (Maine Farmington/21:19), Dakota Vantine (Green Mountain/21:22) and Jill Porter (Johnson State/21:34) were named to the All-NAC Second Team.
Maine Maritime returns to action in two weeks at the NCAA New England Regional Championships.
