Box Score BANGOR, Maine -- Maine Maritime battled Husson for a scoreless 110 minutes before losing on penalty kicks, 4-2, in the North Atlantic Conference quarterfinals Sunday. The win advanced the Eagles to Wednesday's semifinals opposite Castleton.
Husson held a large 37-3 shot differential over the Mariners but keeper Taylor O'Malley (Middletown, RI) stepped up with 22 saves. O'Malley made a number of huge plays including one stop coming in the 23rd minute. Husson's Hannah Clough had a one-on-one opportunity on net. O'Malley came out of the box to stop a ball that then bounced out of her hands, but she quickly pounced on the ball.
O'Malley made another huge stop to force the second overtime when she stuffed a Desir'ee Hamler shot attempt in the first OT before a scoreless second overtime forced penalty kicks.
Husson's Megan O'Neil netted the first PK before Kari Jones' shot was just left for the Mariners and the Eagles' Michaela Bicknell's shot was high to keep Husson ahead 1-0. Hannah Page evened the PKs for MM with a shot to the upper left before Marcy Francoeur made it 2-1 with a shot to the left.
Husson keeper Jess Poulin stopped O'Malley on the next PK before Katie Cyr made it 3-1 on her kick. Ally Fuehrer made it 3-2 but Becca Jones ended the game by sinking her shot for Husson.
