CASTINE, MAINE -- Andy Ball scored five, of his game-high 24 points, in overtime to help lift Maine Maritime Academy to a 66-58 win over Maine-Presque Isle Saturday. The win for Mariners avenged a 74-38 season-opening loss to the Owls and improved MMA to 3-5 overall. UMPI fell to 5-4.

Ball added 10 rebounds with his 24 points while Tyler Chiasson also picked up a double-double for MMA with 10 points and 12 boards. Paul Campbell added 13 points and Logan Poirier pulled 13 rebounds for the Mariners. Claude Louis paced the Owls with 23 points and nine rebounds and Michael Warner added 10 points.

A free throw from Ball and layup by Poirier gave MMA a 56-53 lead to start overtime. UMPI managed to get within one, 56-55, on Patrick Manifold's free throw at 2:47 before the Mariners finished the period with a 10-3 scoring run.

MMA forced overtime with a pair of Campbell threes in the final 2:09 to erase a six point deficit. The Owls gained their lead with a trey from Louis and jumper from Chase Vicaire to make 53-47.

The first half saw five lead changes and five ties and ended in a 20-20 tie. UMPI took its largest lead of the first half, 11-7, with a pair of threes from  Warner and Brad Task. A layup from Ball and a trey by  Chiasson gave the Mariners a one point advantage, 12-11, with eight minutes left in the opener.

The Owls countered with a 7-2 scoring run and took another four point lead, 18-14, on Gerardo Vasquez's three with 5:16 left. Ben Russell netted five straight points to give the Mariners a 19-18 lead with 2:42 left before a Warner jumper for UMPI and free throw by Poirier for MMA evened the score for the fifth time at the break.
