BUZZARD'S BAY, Mass. – Defending its two championships at the Third Annual Mariner Classic, Maine Maritime Academy's volleyball swept its way through SUNY-Maritime in just 48 minutes. The Mariners (4-3) defeated the Privateers (0-5) 25-8, 25-15, 25-8.

Ariel Knights (Brookton, Maine) led the Mariners with six kills, five aces and seven digs, while Betsy Trenckmann (La Veta, Colo.) posted eight aces and five kills. Samantha Tumolo (Manorville, N.Y.) posted 10 assists. The Mariners blew the first game open on a 6-0, Jennifer Dixon (Woodstock, Md.) service run that saw the senior serve up three aces in building a 12-4 lead. The die was cast for the rest of the match.

Maritime (N.Y.) got six kills and nine digs from Jerrica Romero, while Tessa Jardine put up four kills and three digs. Alyssa Pourmonir had eight assists.

The Mariners return to action tomorrow with matches against Massachusetts Maritime and the United States Merchant Marine Academy. The first match gets underway at 11 a.m.
