UNITY, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy's women's cross country team finished in fourth place at Saturday's Unity College Invitational. Six schools fielded 26 runners in the event. The Mariners' Gabrielle Wells (Kittery, Maine) was the Mariners' front-runner, finishing 13th overall.
Unity's Courtney Dotterweich took advantage of the familiar terrain to lead the field by 59 seconds. Dotterweich posted a 20:31, followed by Machias' Paige Wiechman at 21:30. Presque Isle crossed the next four runners to take the meet championship, while MMA's Wells crossed in 25:51.
Jessica Thebarge (Starks, Maine), who joined Maine Maritime's roster on Thursday, crossed 15th with 26:28, while Elin Sonesson (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) finished 17th in 27:18. Alice Stenquist (Bath, Maine) and Kara Wood (Otisfield, Maine) finished in 21st and 22nd, with respective times of 31:33 and 32:49.
The Mariners return to action next weekend at the Colby Invitational.
