Jessica Theberge (Starks, Maine) finished in 38th place among the 53 runners competing at Saturday's Colby Invitational. The Mariners' freshman paced Maine Maritime to a fourth place finish among the five competing teams.
In only her second week of collegiate cross country, Theberge posted a 26:26.48. Unattached runner, Olga Golovkina won the race in 20:22.24, followed by Husson's Alecia Palmer at 20:33.23. Palmer led Husson to a second-place finish, while Colby, with seven runners in the top 10, won its own meet.
She led a pack of Mariners across the line, with Emily Fanning (New Boston, N.H.), Catherine Bailey (Scarborough, Maine) and Ginny Tolbert (Lisbon, Maine) finishing behind her. Fanning raced a 27:20.40, followed by Bailey's 27:33.91, Tolbert logged a 27:34.14 for 41st place. Elin Sonesson (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) rounded out the Mariners top five with a 27:55.8 for 43rd place overall.
The Mariners return to action in two Saturdays at the State of Maine Invitational.
