Mariners Split Saturday at Colby Invite

WATERVILLE, Maine – Maine Maritime's volleyball team split its Saturday at the Colby College Invitational. The Mariners moved to 2-3 on the season with a 3-0 win over Gordon, before falling 3-0 to Colby.

Ariel Knights (Brookton, Maine) posted 11 kills, while Melissa Lail (Elizabeth, Colo.) added seven more to lead the Mariners to a 26-24, 25-23, 25-18 win over Gordon (4-3). Jennifer Dixon (Woodstock, Md.) assisted 29 kills and served up two aces, while Chantal Adderley (Nassau, Bahamas) recorded three solo blocks and a pair of assisted blocks.

Lail led the way with 10 kills, while Knights posted five more in the 17-25, 18-25, 22-25 loss to Colby (4-0). Dixon offered 21 assists and a pair of aces. The Mariners defense became solid offense with Sydney Robertson (Barnstead, N.H.) blocking five attacks on her own and helping out on another. Adderley blocked four hits on her own.

Maine Maritime returns to action on Wednesday night when Maine-Machias pays a visit to Smith Gymnasium.
