Mariners Women Sixth at DII Shacklette

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Competing in a field composing primarily of Division II squads, Maine Maritime finished in sixth place among the seven teams running in the 31st Annual Shacklette Invitational, hosted by St. Anselm. Paced by Emily Fanning's (New Boston, N.H.) 26.17.7, the Mariners finished ahead of the only other Division III team in the field, Daniel Webster College.

Fanning finished 66th in a field of 82 runners. Stonehill's Emily Regan established the meet standard with a 19:17.4. Stonehill swept the first three spots and placed eight runners in the top ten for a decisive victory.

First-year, Ginny Tolbert (Lisbon, Maine), raced a 27:29.6 to finish two places behind Fanning, while classmate, Gabrielle Wells (Kittery, Maine) posted a 28:35.1 for 72nd place. Graduate student and first-year runner, Sam Pease (Warren, Maine) finished in 29:03.8 for 73rd place, while Samantha DePlanche (Dover, N.H.) rounded out the Mariners' top five with a 29:18.2 for 76th.

Maine Maritime returns to action next Saturday at Maine-Farmington's Mount Blue Invitational.
