CASTINE, Maine -- Maine Maritime outscored Johnson State, 43-32, to overcome a three point halftime deficit en route to a 67-59 win against the Badgers in a North Atlantic Conference men's basketball game Friday. The Mariners halted a three-game losing streak and improved to 3-4 NAC, 4-8 overall while Johnson State fell to 4-3, 6-7.

Logan Poirier paced the Mariners with 14 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Tyler Chiasson netted 11, Ben Russell 10 and Jason Hatch and Brad Reed both added nine for Maine Maritime.

Asim Khan scored a game-high 23 points for Johnson State andCody Camisa added 13. Bryan Hickey pulled down a team-best 11 boards.

Tied for the eighth time, 32-32, with 14:07 left in the game, the Mariners netted six straight points to take the lead for good. A pair of free throws by Caleb MacDonald, a jumper from Hatch and a layup by Poirier put MMA up 38-32 with 11:59 left in the game.

The Mariners extended their lead to 10, 51-41, on Poirier's layup at 8:02 before the Badgers eventually got within three, 55-52, with 2:19 left on a pair of Khan free throws. MMA sank 10 of 10 free throws, and received a jumper from Russell, in the final 1:36 to secure the win.

The Mariners broke an early 8-8 tie with a 14-4 scoring run to lead 22-12 with 7:26 left in the first half. Hatch, Holt, Reed and MacDonald all nailed threes in the run and Russell added a layup for Maine Maritime. A layup, and pair of free throws, from Camisa put the Badgers within six, 22-16, before a pair of layups by Khan got them within two, 22-20, with 5:12 left. 

Camisa evened the game for the fourth time with two from the stripe before MacDonald put the Mariners ahead 24-22 with 4:19 left. Khan's layup at 3:44 tied the game for the fifth time, 24-24, and his three with 2:38 left in the opener put the Badgers ahead 27-24 at the break.

Maine Maritime returns to the court Saturday hosting Lyndon State in a NAC contest at 3 p.m.
