Box Score CASTINE, Maine -- Maine Maritime won its second-straight game with a 53-41 win over Lyndon State in a North Atlantic Conference women's basketball game Saturday. The Mariners improved to 4-4 NAC, 6-7 overall while the Hornets fell to 2-6, 4-9.
Maine Maritime coach Craig Dagan picked up his 200th career victory with the win. Dagan, in his 12th season in Castine, is 200-112 as the Mariners boss.
Bekah Campbell led Maine Maritime with a game-high 17 points and Courtney Dufour added 14. Leah Jackson pulled a game-high 10 boards and Campbell had seven rebounds.
Emily Gray paced the Hornets with 14 points and Donna Lawson added 10. Aimee Thompson grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
The Mariners broke a 9-9 tie early in the first half, with a three by Casey Everest and a layup and free throw by Campbell, to lead 15-9 with 9:21 left in the opener. A trey by Gray four minutes later put the Hornets within two, 16-14, with 5:47 left. Maine Maritime answered with an 8-2 scoring run -- five by Dufour, two from Devyn Curless-Clark and one from Mary Badeen -- to go ahead 24-16 with 2:57 remaining. A free throw, and three at the buzzer, by Gray got Lyndon State within four, 24-20, at halftime.
Johnson State made it 31-30 early in the second half on Donna Lawson's layup at 16:22. Maine Maritime answered with a 10-0 run, six by Campbell and three from Dufour and one from Everest, to take a 41-31 lead with 12:24 remaining in the game.
The Hornets got as close as five, 41-36, on Britney Geoffrey at 6:51 but wouldn't get any closer. The Mariners led by as much 14 the remainder of the game.
Maine Maritime travels to Thomas Thursday for a NAC contest at 5:30 p.m.
