CASTINE, Maine -- Lyndon State overcame a three-point halftime deficit to beat Maine Maritime 65-51 in a North Atlantic Conference men's basketball game Saturday. The Hornets improved to 5-3 NAC, 6-6 overall while the Mariners fell to 2-5, 3-9.

Ben Russell led Maine Maritime with 11 points and Logan Poirier contributed 10 points and eight rebounds.

Devyn Baranauskas netted a game-high 18 points for Lyndon State and George Carle reached double figures with 13 points. Jose Fortunato grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds for the Hornets while Jason Gray and Carle pulled 11 and 10 boards.

Lyndon State jumped out to 14-5 at 11:51 on David Johnson's jumper. The Mariners answered with a 10-1 scoring run to even the game at 15-15 at 8:45. Jason Hatch and Nick Holt each had a three and Russell and Caleb MacDonald added two points each. Both teams traded buckets in the next three minutes before a Brad Reed three gave MMA a 25-23 lead. Gray's layup at 3:14 gave the Hornets a 26-25 lead before layups from Russell and Poirier put the Mariners up 29-26 at halftime.

The Mariners built their lead to nine, 35-26, with 15:36 left in the game before Lyndon State erased it with a 15-1 scoring run. Carle started the run with a layup and Baranauskas capped it with three-straight layups to put the Hornets ahead for good, 41-38, with 9:43 left. Maine Maritime got as close as two, 43-41, on a Tyler Chiasson free throw but didn't get within six the remainder of the game.

The Mariners return to the court Thursday against Thomas at 7:30 p.m.
