Terriers Bite Mariners

WATERVILLE, Maine --  Thomas broke 22-22 tie -- the sixth of the first half -- and never looked back on its way to 89-74 win over Maine Maritime Thursday in a North Atlantic Conference men's basketball. The Terriers improved to 6-7, 3-6 while the Mariners fell to 4-10, 3-6.

Ben Russell netted a game-high 22 points for Maine Maritime and Brad Reed added 11. Logan Poirier grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for the Mariners.

Levi Barnes led Thomas with 19 points, Jarrad DeVaughn and Adam Carlsen each scored 12 and Franklin Salvador netted 11 off the bench. DeVaughn also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.

The Terriers took the lead for the sixth time in the opening half at the 9:41 mark off a jumper by Garen Manzo and finished the half with a 53-31 halftime lead. Thomas went 17-41 (43.3%) from the floor in the first half, shooting 38.9% (7-18) from beyond the arc. 

Maine Maritime shot 43.3% in the first half, with nine points coming from  Poirier and Russell.

Thomas kept the momentum going into the second half, extending their lead to 30 points after a jumper by Barnes.  Overall, Thomas shot 37.8% (31-82) from the floor, 83.3% (15-18) from the line, and made 12 threes throughout the game. Maine Maritime shot 45.6% (31-68) from the field, including 53.3% (8-15) from beyond the arc. Thomas won the turnover battle, 11-20. 

Maine Maritime returns to the court Saturday hosting Maine-Farmington at 1 p.m.
