BANGOR, Maine -- Maine Maritime opened up strong, withstood a first-half rally, and finished strong in 55-36 win over Husson in a North Atlantic Conference women's basketball game Friday. The Mariners improved to 8-9 overall, 6-5 NAC while the Eagles fell to 6-10, 6-5.

Mary Badeen paced Maine Maritime with a game-high 17 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Bekah Campbell added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Mariners and Leah Jackson grabbed a game-high 11 boards.

Amanda Johnson led Husson with 16 points and Kelli Murray recorded a team-best eight rebounds.

Maine Maritime exploded with 13-0 lead to start the game, led by four points each from Jackson and Campbell, with 12:37 left in the opener. A pair of threes from Badeen, and a jumper by Campbell, put the Mariners ahead 21-1 with 11:15 left in the first. Husson answered with a  14-0 scoring run, spanning eight minutes, to close the gap to six, 21-15, on Amanda Johnson's three with 3:35 remaining. Jackson put the Mariners up 23-13 with 2:46 left before the Eagles closed out the half with a three by Johnson and jumper from Chrissy Larrabee to make it 23-20 at the break.

The Mariners opened the second  half  with a 22-6 scoring run, highlighted by three treys by Courtney Dufour. to lead 45-24 with 9:54 left in the game. Maine Maritime's lead never dipped below 18 the remainder of the game and the Mariners took its largest lead, 53-29, on a Badeen jumper with 3:07 left.

Maine Maritime returns to the court Sunday, 12 p.m., at Maine-Presque Isle.
