BANGOR, Maine -- Husson used an early 13-0 scoring, which snapped a 14-14 tie, to ignite a 68-58 win over Maine Maritime in a North Atlantic Conference men's basketball game Friday. The Eagles improved to 12-5 overall, 9-2 NAC while the Mariners fell to 4-13, 3-8.

A trio of players reached double figures for Maine Maritime led by Logan Poirier's 14 points. Andy Ball added 12 and Paul Campbell netted 10. Poirier grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to record his third double-double of the season.

Marc Zaharchuk scored a game-high 19 points off the bench for Husson while Brooks Spaulding added 18 and Eric Modica chipped in with 11.

Husson jumped out to an early 7-2 lead before jumpers from Ball and Tyler Chiasson made it 7-6. The teams traded shots for the next  several minutes before Caleb MacDonald evened the game at 14-14 with 9:05 left in the opening half. Marc Zaharchuk started the Eagles' 13-0 run with a jumper at 8:48 and Modica capped it with a pair of free throws to give Husson a 27-14 lead with 4:48 left in the opener. The Mariners ended half outscoring the Eagles 9-6 to trail at the break 33-23.

MMA got within six, 37-31, on a Poirier jumper with 14:44 left in the game before the Eagles took a 15 point lead, 56-41, with 7:44 left. A MacDonald trey at 5:22 made it 60-52 and Maine Maritime was as close as seven, 65-58, on a Ball free throw with 1:28 left in the game. Wood sank three free throws in the final 1:20 to seal the win for Husson.

The Mariners return to action Friday, 5:30 p.m. at Castleton.
