Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. --Senior Taylor DeSanty scored a game-high 21 points to help lift Colby-Sawyer to a 51-35 victory over Maine Maritime in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's basketball contest Friday. Colby-Sawyer improved to 7-4 overall and 5-0 in NAC play. The Mariners fell to 4-5 overall, 2-2 NAC.
The Mariners were led by senior Casey Everest, who had nine points and five rebounds. B Campbell tallied six points, six rebounds and a game-best six blocks and Mary Badeen added seven points and six rebounds.
DeSanty scored 14 of her 21 points in the second half. She added seven rebounds and a game best five steals. Senior Cailin Bullett contributed eight rebounds, six assists and five points. Kelsey Cahill corralled a team-high nine boards. Junior Mari Meserve collected six points, five rebounds and a team-high four blocks.
The Mariners jumped out to its largest lead of the first half, 14-8, on a bucket by Campbell. Colby-Sawyer finished the half on a 15-2 run, holding the visitors to one made field goal over the last 12 minutes of play.
Colby-Sawyer held a comfortable advantage over the first several minutes of the second half, before Maine Maritime stormed back to cut the deficit to four on a three-pointer by Everest. A jumper by DeSanty with 7:57 left in the game, gave Colby-Sawyer a 38-30 lead. The Chargers defense was tough once again and did not let the Mariners get closer than eight points, holding the Mariners to two field goals for the remainder of the frame.
Maine Maritime will travel down I-89 to play at New England College at 1 p.m. Saturday.
