Box Score CASTINE, Maine -- A pair of first half goals by Maine-Machias proved to the difference as the Clippers edged Maine Maritime 2-1 in a women's soccer match Wednesday. Machias improved to 15-3-1, while the Mariners dropped to 3-10-2.
The match marked the final home game for seniors Andi Flannery, Dani Holt and Annie Koensgen.
Maine Maritime was in control in the first 30 minutes of the game. The Mariners fired off six shots, three on goal, and limited the Clippers to just two shots in the opening 30 minutes. Machias struck in the 31st minute when Cayla Thomas fired a shot to the left of the goal, from the 25, that found the back of the net.
The Clippers made it 2-0 in the 42nd minute when Kayla Angelico's through pass found Emma LeGaillas.
Both teams came out firing in the second half with nine shots each. The Mariners finally got on the board in the 85th minute when Victoria Cooper booted in a rebound. Flannery's shot made Clipper's goalie Jessica Bickford leave her feet to the stop shot and Cooper was there to clean it up.
Bickford finished with 10 saves, while Taylor O'Malley stopped four shots for MMA.
The Mariners conclude the regular season Saturday, 1p.m., at New England College.
