Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H.-- Colby-Sawyer College won its third-straight North Atlantic Conference women's volleyball championship with a 3-0 win over Maine Maritime Saturday. The Chargers, who improved to 22-10, earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Championship playoffs. The Mariners ended their season at 18-10.
Colby-Sawyer won by scores of 25-14, 25-19 and 25-13.
The Chargers opened the match with a 5-0 run capped by a pair of aces from senior Courtney O'Hara. Maine Maritime scored three of the next four points, but the Chargers slowly pulled away and ended the set on a 6-1 run capped by a block by O'Hara and freshman Gabrielle Rodriguez to win 25-14.
The Mariners regrouped in the second set, which featured seven ties and four lead changes. After the Chargers grabbed an early 6-2 lead, the Mariners responded with a 6-1 run to take their first lead of the match on a Betsy Trenckmann ace. The set went back and forth for the next several points with each team struggling to keep the serve in the court. The Chargers began to distance themselves from the Maine Maritime pressure after the score was knotted at 13-13. CSC scored five of the last six points and clinched the set on an O'Hara kill to win 25-19.
The third set began with a 10-1 run by the Chargers. The Mariners did not go quietly as they pulled within three points at 13-10. From that point, the Colby-Sawyer attack was too much and the Chargers went on to finish the set and the match on a 12-3 run.
Colby-Sawyer was led by junior Jackie Keating, who was named NAC Tournament MVP for the second straight season. She hit .458 and recorded a match-high 12 kills. Emilee McBride ) earned All-Tournament team accolades after recording 10 kills on .500 hitting. Courtney O'Hara also was named All-Tournament with five kills and match-highs of five aces and two blocks.
Maine Maritime was led by senior Melissa Lail, who recorded a team-best eight kills and added five digs. All-Tournament selection Gillian O'Neal had six kills and a team-high 12 digs. Sophomore Jess Menges also was selected to the All-Tournament team.
Sydney Robertson finished with four kills and one solo block. She now holds the school record for solo blocks in a season with 44, breaking the previous mark held by Amy Young '08.
