Box Score CASTINE, Maine -- Maine-Farmington rallied from a five-point first half deficit to knock off Maine Maritime 67-62 in a North Atlantic Conference women's basketball game Tuesday. The Beavers improved to 1-0 NAC, 2-3 overall, while the Mariners dropped to 0-1, 2-3.
Kari Jones poured in a career-high 27 points on 9 of 20 shooting. She connected on a school-record eight threes, which broke the record of seven held by Michelle Gott '07, Courtney Dufour '13 and Mary Badeen. Leah Jackson recorded her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds and Hannah Lyons dished out a game-high 10 assists.
Ayla Allen paced Farmington with 20 points and Lindsay Ranquist added 16. Meghan Smith grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
Deadlocked for the sixth time, 14-14, with 11:12 left in the first half, the Mariners took a five point lead after Jones connected on a jumper and drained a trey. The Beavers got within one twice, the second time coming after Ranquist's three made it 27-26 with 5:45 remaining.
Maine Maritime responded with an 8-0 run, with five points from Kristi Willey and three from Jones, to lead 35-26 with 2:35 left. Farmington closed out the first half with four unanswered, on layup by Kennadi Grover and a pair of free throws from Allen, to make it 35-30 at the break.
The Mariners held the lead for the opening five minutes of the second half before threes from Allen and Ranquist put UMF ahead 43-41 with 13:56 left in the game. Maine Maritime tied the game with a Mackenzie Vosburgh free throw, and regained the lead after Lyons' jumper at 11:14. Allen's traditional three-point play gave the Beavers the lead for good, 47-45, with 10:53 left in the game.
Farmington led by as many eight, twice, and led by only two, 64-62, after Jones' three with 1:08 remaining. Allen connected on three free throws in the final minute to ice the game for Farmington.
The Mariners return to action Saturday, 3 p.m., at Husson.
