Box Score JOHNSON, Vt. – A last second block by Johnson State secured a 71-70 win over Maine Maritime in a North Atlantic Conference men's basketball game Saturday. The Badgers improved to 9-16 overall, 7-11 NAC and they clinched the No. 7 seed in next week's conference playoffs. The Mariners season ended at 4-20, 3-15.
Logan Poirier paced Maine Maritime with 17 points and nine rebounds. Andy Ball finished with 15 points, five assists and four rebounds and Paul Campbell added 14 points, nine boards and six assists.
Andy Bousono led the Badgers with 15 points, Asim Khan netted 14 and Bryan Hickey scored 12 and a team-high six rebounds.
The Mariners held a 65-58 lead with six minutes left in the game before an 8-0 run gave the Badgers a 66-65 lead with three minutes left. Johnson State scored five unanswered to lead 71-65 before scored by Ball and Jason Hatch got Maine Maritime within one. Ball had a chance to win the game MMA with seconds left but Cody Camisa got a piece of his shot to end the game.
Maine Maritime ran out to an early 17-point lead on a Tyler Chiasson layup to give the Mariners a 28-11 lead with 9:33 left in the first. The Badgers, behind Bousono, rallied to close the gap at halftime 44-40. Bousono drilled three consecutive 3-point attempts in a two minute span to key the surge for Johnson.
