CASTINE, Maine -- Maine Maritime won a pair of matches in the Fourth Annual Maritime Classic Saturday at Smith Gymnasium. The Mariners beat Massachusetts Maritime 3-0 before blanking SUNY-Maritime 3-0. The Mariners improved to 3-4.

Maine Maritime 3, Mass. Maritime 0
Gillian O'Neal recorded nine aces and seven kills to lead the Mariners to 25-7, 25-8 and 25-8 wins. Melissa Lail added seven kills, Samantha Tumolo contributed 23 assists and Jess Menges had five digs.

Deb Langley had two kills and three digs to pace the Bucs.

Maine Maritime 3, SUNY-Maritime 0
Mariners beat the Privateers in straight sets, 25-4, 25-6 and 25-8 in their match Saturday.
Lail had six kills and six aces for Maine Maritime and Betsy Trenckmann added five and six aces for Maine Maritime. O'Neal posted four aces and five digs and Tumolo had 22 assists.

Mass. Maritime 3, SUNY-Maritime 1
Sophomore Emily Calnan registered six kills and four service aces to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 3-1 victory over SUNY-Maritime (0-4).

Freshman Meaghan Brain also recorded six kills for Massachusetts Maritime (1-5), as the Buccaneers dropped the opening set by a 28-26 margin before taking the final three sets by scores of 25-18, 25-22 and 25-21.  Stephanie O'Connor collected 13 digs for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received nine set assists and nine digs from junior Deb Langley as well as three set assists and eight digs from junior Meghan Weir.

Sunday's second round Maritime Classic will be a reverse of today's round-robin, as Massachusetts Maritime will face SUNY-Maritime at 10:00 a.m., SUNY-Maritime and Maine Maritime is slated for 11:30 a.m. and Mass. Maritime and Maine Maritime will play the final match at 1 p.m.
