Box Score CASTINE, Maine -- Annie Koensgen broke nearly 102 minutes of scoreless play when she headed in a shot early in the second overtime. Koensgen goal, off a Victoria Cooper pass, lifted Maine Maritime to a 1-0 win over Thomas College in a North Atlantic Conference women's soccer game Tuesday.
The Mariners improved to 2-4-2 overall, 1-0-1 NAC, while the Terriers fell to 3-5, 1-1.
The Terriers were able to fire off three shots in the first overtime but none found the back of the net. Elizabeth Anderson shot wide in the 94th minute and was stopped by Taylor O'Malley in the 95th and 97th minutes. Briana Obshatkin's shot for Maine Maritime was stopped by Thomas goalie Kate Thibodeau in the 99th minute.
The Mariners managed three shots on goal in the second half but Thibodeau was up to the challenge on all three occasions. Obshatkin had a shot saved in the 50th minute, Sarah Brochu's ball in the 74th found Thibodeau's gloves and Thinodeau made a diving save on a Cooper shot in the 80th minute.
O'Malley, too, was up to the challenge in the second half with two saves. She stoned an Anderson shot in the in the 53rd minute and bested Kajsa Kaufeldt in the 75th.
The Terriers missed a scoring opportunity early in the game when Bronte Howorth hit the post in the 22nd minute. O'Malley later stopped a Toral Nelson shot and Thibodeau kept the game even when saved a Koensgen shot in the 44th minute.
O'Malley and Thibodeau both finished with five saves.
Maine Maritime returns to action Saturday, 3:30 pm., at Castleton.
