Box Score CASTLETON, Vt. -- Castleton pumped in six unanswered goals in the first half en route to a 6-0 win over Maine Maritime in a North Atlantic Conference women's soccer game Saturday. The Spartans remained unbeaten in the NAC at 3-0 and improved to 7-3 overall. The Mariners fell to 1-1-1 NAC, 2-5-2 overall.
Dominique Valancius led Castleton with a pair of goals, while Mallory Costello dished out a pair of assists. Jessica Binkowski finished with two saves in the first half to earn the win in net for the Spartans. Brielle DeBaise played the entire second half without registering a save.
Blaire Hooper ignited the Spartans with their first goal of the game just 3:08 into the contest. Hooper received a pass from Costello nearly 25 yards out. Valancius netted her first of the game in the eighth minute of play. The freshman converted a pass from Hooper to put the Spartans up 2-0. Nicole Weshoven scored her third goal of the season in the 11th minute, followed by Valancius' second of the game and 10th of the season just 37 seconds later, extending the Spartan lead to 4-0.
In the 26th minute, Nicole Gay lined up to take the kick from about 30 yards out and ripped the ball, finding the net for her first career goal as a Spartan. Kaileen Banks finished off a corner kick to put the Spartans up 6-0 going into halftime.
Taylor O'Malley stopped 16 shots, Patricia Dunford saved one shot, for Maine Maritime.
The Mariners return action Sunday, 2:30 p.m., at Green Mountain in a NAC match.
