CASTINE, Maine -- Maine Maritime blanked Maine-Fort Kent, 3-0, in a non-conference women's volleyball match Sunday. The win, the Mariners second straight, evened Maine Maritime's record  at 7-7. The Bengals lost their first match of the season and fell to 8-1.

The Mariners won 26-24, 25-14 and 25-16.

Deadlocked at 23 in the first set, Maine Maritime went ahead on an ace from Samantha Tumolo. UMFK evened the set at 24 on a service error by the Mariners before Molly Marcotte and Sydney Robertson ended the set with consecutive kills for Maine Maritime. 

The Mariners jumped out to 21-14 lead in the second set and scored four unanswered points. A pair of kills from Robertson and Gillian O'Neal, and two aces by O'Neal, locked up a 25-14 set win and 2-0 match score.

Maine Maritime led 21-16 in the final set and again ended the set, and match, with four-straight points. Robertson recorded a kill, Betsy Trenckmann followed with a kill of her own and Melissa Lail tallied and ace and set-winning kill to secure the win.

Lail led Maine Maritime's attack with 11 kills, while Ariel Knights and Robertson added 8 and 6 kills. O'Neal recorded three aces and 15 digs, Tumolo had a 35 assists and Robertson finished with three blocks for the Mariners.

Danille Carillo paced the Bengals attack with seven kills, Jessekah McCorkle posted 15 assists and Skyler Olsen finished with 13 digs.

The Mariners return to action Saturday against New Hampshire Tech at Colby-Sawyer.
