Mariners Fall to USM

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Southern Maine shutout Maine Maritime 4-0 in a non-conference women's soccer game Saturday at the Thomas Invitational. The Mariners fell to 1-3 while USM improved to 3-1.

Shannon Brozyna netted the first goal of the game in the 42nd minute to put Southern Maine ahead 1-0. The Huskies tacked on three unanswered in the second half, with two scores from Jordan grant and one by Emily Staples, to ho ahead 4-0.

Maine Maritime managed three shots while USM had 23 shots. Marrissa Temple and Katie Cobb combined for three saves for the Huskies while Taylor O'Malley stopped 12 shots for the Mariners.

Maine Maritime returns to action next Saturday traveling to Maine-Presque Isle for a noon match.
