Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Women's Soccer defeated Green Mountain College on Sunday afternoon, 3-1 to close out the regular season.
The Mariners grabbed a team goal in the 18th minute to jump out to a 1-0 lead when an Eagle defender inadvertently headed the ball into her own net.
In the 34th minute Sarah Brochu (Hardwick, Vt.) crossed a ball ahead for Briana Obshatkin (Dedham, Mass.) who picked up her second goal in as many games.
Halfway through the second half Victoria Cooper (Saco, Maine) crossed a ball in front of the net to Brochu who beat her defender and Eagle keeper Kim Simonetti to pick up her third goal of the year.
The Eagles picked up a goal to breakup the shutout with a little under eight minutes remaining to make it 3-1. Martha Howe beat Mariner keeper Kelsie Hilton (Monmouth, Maine) on a free kick that sailed into the top right corner.
Hilton ended the game with one save in the win and Simonetti recorded six saves in the loss.
The Mariners end their regular season with an overall record of 6-10 and 3-6 in the North Atlantic Conference.
Prior to the game the Mariners honored their five seniors; Cassandra Lafontaine (Enosburg Falls, Vt.), Ally Fuehrer (Freeport, Maine), Abby Yeo (Bucksport, Maine), Lillian Slazas (Stockton Springs, Maine), and Taylor O'Malley (Middletown, R.I.).
