Box Score 2 CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy Volleyball defeated Maine Presque Isle in an pair of matches on Wednesday night, concluding their 2014 regular season with an overall record of 15-14.
In a ceremony prior to the game the Mariners honored their two seniors; Betsy Trenckmann (La Veta, Colo.) and Sydney Robertson (Barnstead, N.H.). The team also hosted their annual "Think Pink" night where each Mariner played in honor of a person they know who has been affected by cancer.
Trenckmann added to the celebration in the first match by breaking the school record for assists in a single season when the Marine Biology Major picked up 23 assists against the Owls.
The Mariners took the first match victory in three sets winning 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-7).
Gillian O'Neal (Burbank, Calif.) led the Mariners with a double double, picking up 12 kills and 11 digs, the Marine Biology Major just missed double digits in aces with nine. Robertson added four blocks to her record breaking career, while adding eight kills.
The Owls were led by Shannon Brown who recorded 10 digs and three kills. Leslie Theriault added a team-high six kills and a dig.
Between the two matches the Mariners honored the Adams School VolleyKids.
In the second match the Mariners again claimed the 3-0 victory (25-7, 25-21, 25-19).
Robertson led the Mariners with 11 kills and two blocks while Samantha Ryan (Los Angeles, Calif.) added a match-high 14 digs. Trenckmann picked up 26 assists in match two. O'Neal added nine digs, six kills and five service aces.
In the second match the Owls were led by Abby Jewett and Brown who both picked up 10 digs, Brown also added four aces.
Trenckmann ended the night with an impressive 49 assists to total 774 this season.
The Mariners (NAC 5-1) will prepare for the NAC Championships on November 8th as they will travel to Colby-Sawyer College to take on Husson University in the NAC Semifinals.
