Late Game Goal Lifts Eagles Past Mariners

BANGOR, Maine – Women's soccer fell to NAC opponent Husson University 3-2, on Saturday night at Boucher Field.

The Eagles drew first blood when freshman Leah Hibbad rebounded her own shot past Kelsie Hilton (Monmouth, Maine) in the 41st minute.

Maine Maritime came out quick in the second half, when Victoria Cooper (Saco, Maine) passed a ball to Morgan Libby (Brunswick, Maine) in the box in the 48th minute. Libby then chipped the shot over Eagle keeper Jess Poulin.

Husson took the lead back a little over ten minutes later, when Taylor Fortin connected with Hibbad for her second goal of the game, beating Hilton high.

The Mariners fought back as Cooper grabbed an unassisted goal in he 62nd minute to tie the match at 2-2.

With just 62 seconds remaining in the game, Mollie Roy curved a ball just inside of the net to give the Eagles the victory.

With their two-goal performance against Husson the Mariners break a three-game scoreless streak against the Eagles, and record their first multi-goal game since 2005.

Hilton recorded 14 saves in the loss, while Poulin stopped four shots.

Maine Maritime (3-7, 1-2) returns to action this Tuesday night against the University of Maine at Farmington.
