Box Score 2 NEW LONDON, N.H. – Volleyball split their matches on Saturday afternoon, defeating Castleton in three sets and falling to the host Colby-Sawyer in three sets.
Maine Maritime 3, Castleton 0 – 25-19, 25-21, 25-23
The Mariners received a pair of strong offensive efforts at the net to handle Castleton, 3-0. Senior Sydney Robertson (Barnstead, N.H.) had 13 kills, while sophomore Gillian O'Neal (Burbank, Calif.) collected 12. Robertson added four aces and a pair of blocks, while O'Neal had a double-double with 11 digs.
Castleton was led by sophomore Brittany Brayman (Hartford, N.Y.). She had team-highs of seven kills and 10 digs.
Colby-Sawyer 3, Maine Maritime 0 – 25-9, 25- 15, 25-19
Sophomore Gillian O'Neal (Burbank, Calif.) had team-highs of nine kills and 12 digs for Maine Maritime. Senior Betsy Trenckmann (La Veta, Colo.) just missed a double-double with 18 assists and nine digs.
Senior Stephanie Vecchio (Shelter Island, N.Y.) recorded a match best 13 kills on .435 hitting, while sophomore Gabrielle Rodriguez (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) hit .375 with 11 kills. Kelsey Sullivan (Laconia, N.H.) and Jackie Keating (Marshfield, Mass.) added six kills apiece.
The Mariners are now 7-8 overall and 1-1 to start North Atlantic Conference play. Maine Maritime will return to action this Wednesday when they travel to Saint Joseph's Colllege for a non-conference battle at 6:00 PM.
