Maine Maritime entered halftime with a 29-21 lead, but MIT's 21 unanswered points overpowered the Mariners in the fourth quarter.

The Engineers scored on their opening drive when quarterback Peter Williams capped off a seven-play, 82-yard drive with an 11-yard rush for the touchdown. The Mariners answered right back on a drive sparked by Joshua Doolan's (Fairfield, Maine) 25-yard run to the MIT 37-yard line. Fahey rushed the ball 10 yards to grab the touchdown, and Johnny Weymouth's (Windham, Maine) extra point tied the game at 7-7.

Brad Goldsberry returned the ensuing kickoff 51 yards putting the Engineers at the Mariners 36-yard line. On just three plays MIT took the lead on a Justin Wallace three-yard touchdown run.

Maine Maritime took advantage of their first possession in the second quarter, marching down the field on 14 plays, for 77 yards. Ferrar ran the ball in from two yards to make it 14-13.

Williams completed a 55-yard pass to Goldsberry during the Engineers next drive, to set up a 10-yard touchdown run from Wallace to make it 21-13. The Mariners rushed their way down the field setting up a one-yard touchdown run from Fahey. Jacob Doolan successfully converted the two-point try, tying the game at 21-21.

The Mariner defense came up huge with a little over a minute remaining in the first half, when Justin Lovely (West Gardiner, Maine) picked off Williams' pass that deflected off an offensive lineman's helmet. The interception put Maine Maritime at the MIT 41-yard line with 1:01 remaining in the half. The Mariners used three plays to capitalize on the Engineer mistake, when Fahey connected with Jordan Susi (South Portland, Maine) for a 25-yard touchdown. Ferrar converted the two-point try, making it 29-21.

With 43 seconds remaining in the half, the Mariner defense forced another MIT mistake, when Alex Gamester (Kittery, Maine) picked up an interception, to preserve the Mariner lead.

The two teams opened up the second half with matching touchdowns, but the Mariners converted on another two-point conversion, following a Ferrar 20-yard rushing touchdown, to make it 37-28.

The Engineers held the Mariners to just those 37 points, scoring on every drive in the second half, claiming the 55-37 victory.

Lovely led the Mariners defense with his team-high eight tackles and an interception. Weymouth ended his day with seven tackles and a broken up pass, while John Doyon (Hampden, Maine) also recorded seven tackles for Maine Maritime.

The Engineers were led offensively by Wallace's 261-yard, six-touchdown performance, while defensively Cameron Wagar picked up a game-leading 15 tackles, including 1.5 tackles for a loss.
