FARMINGTON, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy Men's Basketball (1-4, 0-1) fell to Maine-Farmington (1-3, 1-0) on Tuesday night, 72-55 in the opening night of North Atlantic Conference play.
Senior
Jason Hatch (Islesboro, Maine) picked up a team-high 16 points off the bench, on 5-of-6 shooting, including 2-2 from beyond the arc to lead the Mariners, while
Kyle Boucher (Wayne, Maine) grabbed 14 points and
Nick Holt (Ellsworth, Maine) added 10.
The Mariners fought hard throughout the game using a nine-point run, highlighted by two Holt three-pointers, to hold a three-point lead midway through the first half.
The two teams battled back and forth before
Zachary Radcliffe (Rumford, Maine) nailed a three-pointer of his own to regain the lead for the Mariners with a little under two minutes remaining in the half, but the Beavers responded with six unanswered points to take a 29-24 lead into the half.
In the second half the physical battle continued with the two teams combining for 33 fouls. The Beavers outscored the Mariners 15-4 to open up the second half and never looked back, leading by as much as 20 points in the final minute of the game.
Nick Hilton scored a game-high 22 points for the Beavers while Uriah Forest-Bulley followed closely with 21 points.
The Mariners will host NAC rival Husson University this Saturday, December 6
th at 3:00 PM.
