Box Score CASTINE, Maine -- Maine Maritime won its second-straight game with a 46-37 win over Johnson State in a North Atlantic Conference women's basketball game Friday. The Mariners improved to 13-9 overall, 10-5 NAC, while the Badgers dropped to 7-14, 7-8.
Ashley Shine and Kristi Willey each netted 12 points to pace Maine Maritime and Leah Jackson grabbed a team-high five rebounds.
Kasey DeGreenia pulled down a game-high 11 boards and scored a team-high nine points for Johnson State.
The Mariners opened the game with a 6-0 lead after a Mackenzie Vosburgh layup eight minutes into the contest. Johnson State answered with a Bruckner-led run to lead 7-6 with 9:13 left in the opener. Bruckner scored all seven points in the run for the Badgers.
Johnson took its largest lead, 14-11, when Nicole Menard converted a layup with 3:08 left before halftime. The Mariners responded with a 10-0 run to lead 21-14 at halftime. Cheyenne Malloy and Shine each netted three points in the run for MMA and Jackson and Jillian Perron scored two each.
The Badgers opened the second half with seven-straight poins -- four by DeGreenia -- points to even the game at 21-21 with 17:07 left in the game. The game featured three more ties before the Badgers led 32-30 at the 11:08 mark.
The Mariners exploded on a 12-0 scoring run and took 42-32 lead after a Shine trey with 5:58 left in the game. Shine paced the run for MMA with five points, Willey added three and Bekah Campbell and Jackson two each.
JSC got within five, 42-37, after a free throw by DeGreenia with 1:52 left in the game but the Maine Maritime converted 4 of 6 from the line in the final 40 seconds to secure the win.
The Mariners return to action Saturday, 1 p.m., hosting Lyndon State.
