NEW LONDON, N.H. -- Colby-Sawyer knocked off Maine Maritime 65-55 in a North Atlantic Conference women's basketball game Friday. The Chargers won their fifth-straight game and improved to 11-9 overall, 10-3 NAC, while the Mariners fell to 11-9, 8-5.

Leah Jackson and Ashley Shine paced the Mariners with 12 points each and Kristi Willey came off the bench to net nine points for Maine Maritime. 

Kelsey Cahill picked up her fourth double-double this season with 17 points and 12 rebounds for Colby-Sawyer. Ashley Fruzzetti netted a game-high 18 points and Kristin Ellis added 11.

The Chargers used seven first half three pointers to secure a 15 point edge at the break. Ashley Fruzzetti was 5 of 6 from beyond the arc as Colby-Sawyer shot 50 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes. After a Fruzzetti trey gave Colby-Sawyer a 16-11 lead with 12:19 on the clock, the Mariners received five straight points Shine to knot the game at 16-16. The Chargers went on a 16-1 run capped by another Fruzzetti three, to take its largest advantage of the first half at 32-17. Colby-Sawyer took a 38-23 lead into halftime. 

The Chargers  held a double figure lead for the first 14 minutes of the second half untilJackson cut the Maine Maritime deficit to nine at 58-49 with 5:32 to play.The Mariners got as close as nine until Colby-Sawyer connected on a pair of lay-ins before a pair of free throws by Jillian Perron set the final score.

The Mariners used 13 offensive rebounds to outscore the Chargers 16-4 in second chance points. Colby-Sawyer finished the game 46.9 percent from the floor and 45.5 percent from beyond the arc.  

The Mariners return to action Saturday, 1 p.m., at New England College.
