Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Women's soccer fell to non-conference opponent Berry College on Sunday afternoon at Ritchie Field. The Mariners went 1-1 in the Inaugural Old Town Canoe Classic.
The Mariners successfully defended the Viking offense for over 20 minutes until Berry notched their first goal of the afternoon in the 22nd minute. Lauren Skyora managed to find Tessa Piety through traffic in front of the net; Piety placed the ball just out of reach of Mariner goalie Kelsie Hilton.
In the 29th minute the Vikings struck again this time on the foot of Maggie Midkiff, making the lead 2-0.
On her second straight attempt, Chandler Maddox played a perfectly kicked corner kick in the corner of the net, to extend the Berry lead to 3-0 in the 32nd minute.
Opening up the second half Sara Dillon added another goal for the Vikings, on a second chance opportunity in front of the net after Hilton saved a header attempt, setting the deficit at 4-0.
Berry (2-0) scored nine goals against Thomas College on Friday night, tallying their point total at 13 for the Inaugural Old Town Canoe Classic.
Hilton ended the afternoon with five saves.
The Mariners who sit even at 1-1 on the season, will travel to Waterville, Maine next Friday and Saturday for the Terrier Soccer Classic where they will face the University of Maine at Presque Isle and the University of Southern Maine.
