Box Score LYNDON CENTER, Vt. -- Women's soccer defeated NAC opponent Lyndon on Sunday afternoon 2-1, grabbing their first North Atlantic Conference victory of the season.
Victoria Cooper (Saco, Maine) scored twice in the first half to lift the Mariners over the Hornets (4-6, 0-3).
Cooper struck first in the tenth minute, grabbing her second goal of the season, on a shot from the right to beat Hornet goalkeeper Julianna Anderson.
Sarah Brochu (Hardwick, Vt.) crossed a ball ahead to Cooper in the 27th minute, for her third goal of the season, edging the Mariner lead to 2-0.
Lyndon State got on the board in the 51st minute, when Sarah Cornell recorded on a direct kick.
The Mariners held the Hornet's comeback efforts and clinched their first NAC victory. Statistically the Mariners dominated the Hornets in shots 26-6 and 9-4 in corner kick opportunities.
Mariner keeper Kelsie Hilton (Monmouth, Maine) recorded four saves in the victory, while Anderson stopped 10 shots in the loss.
Maine Maritime (3-6, 1-2) returns to NAC action next weekend against Husson on Saturday night and Maine Farmington on Sunday.
