Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – Maine Maritime Academy fell to Colby-Sawyer College 50-45 on Saturday afternoon, in North Atlantic Conference action.
Colby-Sawyer jumped out to a 12-0 run after making four-straight three-pointers and held a 12-point advantage again at 24-12 after a Jessica Shenkel three. The Mariners fought back going on a 10-2 run capped by a Jillian Perron (Skowhegan, Maine) jumper to close the half trailing 26-22. Perron led all players with 10 first half points.
The Chargers led by as much as 10 with 10:11 remaining, but the Mariners kept the game in single digits for the remainder of the contest. A late three by Mary Badeen (Newport, Maine) closed the gap to four with a few seconds to play and a Katie McCarthy free throw lifted the Chargers to the 50-45 final score.
Maine Maritime was led by Kristi Willey (Topsham, Maine) and Perron who scored 12 points apiece. Badeen finished with seven points and six rebounds.
Lexi Iannone and Katie McCarthy each scored 13 points to lead the Chargers. Kristin Ellis grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds to lead all players.
Maine Maritime drops to 5-10 overall and 2-6 in NAC play, while Colby-Sawyer improves to 8-6 overall and 5-3 in the conference. The Mariners return to action on Friday with a home game against Lyndon State.
