Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – Maine Maritime Academy Men's Basketball fell to Colby-Sawyer College 78-51, on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference play.
The Mariners struggled in the first half, falling behind 7-0 following three quick turnovers. Brendan Newcomb's (Holden, Maine) three-pointer cut the Chargers lead to 9-5, but Colby-Sawyer outscored the Mariners 22-6 in the next ten minutes, to establish a commanding 42-17 lead at the half.
Maine Maritime never gave up in the second half, outscoring the Chargers 11-2 late in the game, to close the lead to 66-46. Despite putting together a stronger half and outrebounding Colby-Saywer, the Mariners fell by a 78-51 final.
Tyler Thayer (Hermon, Maine) led the way for the Mariners with nine points, four rebounds and three assists, while Nick Holt (Ellsworth, Maine) and Tyler Gilson (Thomaston, Maine) each added eight points. Holt chipped in with five rebounds, an assist and steal, while Gilson pulled down a game-high seven boards, and two blocks off the bench.
Peter Donato led the Chargers with a game-high 27 points, six rebounds, three steals and a block while Cam Meservey added nine points, five rebounds and two assists.
Maine Maritime falls to 1-13 on the season and 0-8 in NAC play, while the Chargers improve to 9-4, and 7-1.
The Mariners will return to action on Tuesday night when they travel to non-conference opponent Colby College at 7:00 p.m., before hosting a pair of NAC games starting next Friday with Lyndon State.
