Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Tori Cooper (Saco, Maine) scored twice and dished out an assist, to lead Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer to a 4-0 North Atlantic Conference win on Tuesday evening at Ritchie Field.
Cooper broke open the scoring in the 5th minute with a booming free kick that curved into the net.
Maine Maritime's leading goal scorer and reigning NAC Rookie of the Week, Makayla Lewis (Purcellville, Va.) found the back of the net in the 18th minute on a ball played up by Cooper to make it 2-0.
Susana DeFrank (Temecula, Calif.) added a score in the 22nd minute when she bounced a ball of her defender and laid out to sneak the ball past Terrier keeper Paige Leary.
Cooper added an insurance goal in the 61st minute on a penalty kick, her sixth goal on the season.
The Mariners dominated possession of the ball, and controlled the tempo for most of the game, tallying 26 shots to the Terriers' four.
Bronte Howorth led the Terrier offense with two shots on goal.
Maggie McConkey (Fryeburg, Maine) was strong in net stopping all four shots she faced, to grab her 7th shutout of the year, tying Meghan Marshall with the most shutouts in a single season. Leary recorded nine saves in the effort for Thomas.
The Mariners improve to 8-6-1 overall and 5-1-1 in the NAC, while Thomas falls to 6-9 on the season and 3-5 in conference play. Maine Maritime returns to action on Saturday at Green Mountain College.
Prior to the game, the Mariners honored their two seniors, Cooper and Kelsie Hilton (Monmouth, Maine).
