Endicott Holds Off Maine Maritime

Box Score

BEVERLY, Mass. – Maine Maritime Academy amassed 283 rushing yards, including a touchdown from both Michael Fahey (Union, Conn.) and James Ferrar (Cumberland, Maine) in a tough 37-14 New England Football Conference loss to Endicott on Saturday at Hempstead Stadium.

Ferrar led the Mariner offense with 144 yards on 25 carries, while Fahey tallied 72 rushing yards and 67 passing yards. Freshman Derek Breunig (Westbrook, Maine) tallied 52 yards on two grabs, including a long reception of 44 yards.

Lawrence Gonzalez returned an interception for 45-yards on the opening drive to put Endicott up 7-0. The Mariners threw another interception on their next drive, but answered back with an 8-play 62-yard scoring drive capped off by a Fahey 3-yard run. Chad Martin's (Fairfield, Maine) extra-point was good to tie things at 7-7.

The Gulls scored 17 points in the second half to take a 24-7 lead into the intermission. The Mariners forced the Gulls to punt on back-to-back drives, held Endicott to just a field goal in the third quarter, and orchestrated a 17-play 79-yard drive highlighted by a 2-yard touchdown run by Ferrar to cut the deficit to 27-14.

Robert Bradley Jr. (Slidell, La.) strip-sacked Gull quarterback Sam Ouellette at the end of the third quarter, and Jeddy Doyon (Hampden, Maine) recovered the ball to give the Mariners possession on the Endicott 45-yard line, but Jacob Doolan's (Fairfield, Maine) pass was intercepted to halt Maine Maritime's momentum.

Endicott added 10 points in the fourth quarter to claim the NEFC victory, improving to 3-4 overall and 3-1 in the conference, while the Mariners fall to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in NEFC play.

Ouellette led the way for the Gulls offensively, with 245 passing yards on 15 completions, and a touchdown.

Defensively, the Mariners were led by Doyon who recorded 11 tackles (three solo) and a fumble recovery, and Alex Gamester's (Kittery, Maine) 10 tackles (six solo). Bradley Jr. tallied two sacks, for 14 yards, five tackles and a forced fumble, while Christopher Ford (Pembroke, N.H.) added a sack and six tackles.

Connor McLaughlin recorded a game-high 14 tackles (six solo) and an interception to lead Endicott's defense. John Pendergast and Thomas Johnson added 13 tackles each for the Gulls.

Maine Maritime will host Curry College for Senior Day, on Saturday, October 31 at noon.
