Box Score POULTNEY, Vt. – Makayla Lewis (Purcellville, Va.) notched a hat trick and Susana DeFrank (Temecula, Calif.) scored twice to lead Maine Maritime Academy to a 6-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win over Green Mountain College, on Saturday afternoon at Eagles Game Field.
Maine Maritime (9-6-1, 6-1-1 NAC) opened the scoring early getting their first goal in the 4th minute, when DeFrank scored her first of the day on a penalty kick following an Eagle foul in the box.
Lewis scored the next three goals for the Mariners, with two coming in the first half and her third just a couple minutes into the second period to extend the lead to 4-0. The hat trick gave the freshman midfielder a team-leading 12 goals on the year, and placing her third in the conference overall.
DeFrank scored her second of the game and seventh of the season with just over 37 minutes remaining in the game. Emily Wyman (Brockton, Mass.) added a goal in the 87th minute of play to close out the scoring on the afternoon, giving her six goals this season.
Maine Maritime outshot the Eagles 12-8 while the teams tied for one corner kick each.
Maggie McConkey (Fryeburg, Maine) stopped five shots on net to pick up a program-record eighth shutout of the season for the Mariners, while Kim Simonetti made four saves in the loss for GMC.
The Mariners will wrap up regular season play at Castleton tomorrow at noon.
