Box Score CASTLETON, Vt. – Maine Maritime Academy fell to Castleton 2-0, on Sunday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference Action, in their final regular season game.
The Mariners clinched the #3 seed in the upcoming North Atlantic Conference Championship.
Nicole Wershoven opened up the scoring for the Spartans when she buried a shot into the left side of the net, following a shot from Mallory Costello that was deflected to Wershoven's foot. Castleton took their 1-0 lead into the intermission, despite the Mariners holding a 6-4 edge in shots.
Costello added a goal of her own in the 55th minute to give the Spartans a 2-0 lead and the eventual shutout win.
Tori Cooper (Saco, Maine) led the way for Maine Maritime's offense with five shots, four on net.
Maggie McConkey (Fryeburg, Maine) recorded two stops in net, while Spartan keeper Jessica Binkowski tallied nine saves in the win.
The Mariners end the regular season 9-7-1 overall and 6-2-1 in the NAC. Maine Maritime will host Husson University on Saturday, October 31 for a NAC quarterfinal matchup.
Castleton University secured the #1 seed after going a perfect 9-0 in conference play, and Colby-Sawyer picked up the #2 seed with a 8-1 conference record.
