Box Score 2 STANDISH, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy volleyball picked up a 3-0 victory over Simmons, and fell to Saint Joseph's 3-0 on Saturday in non-conference action.
Game One: Maine Maritime Academy 3 – Simmons College 0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-17)
The Mariners jumped out to an early 4-1 lead following three-straight kills from Tess Clark (Spring, Texas), and went on to win the first set, 25-17. The second set proved to be a close battle, with the Mariners picking up the 25-21 win. Maine Maritime grabbed the 25-17 third set, and took the non-conference win.
Gillian O'Neal (Burbank, Calif.) recorded a double-double performance with a team-high 17 digs and 13 kills, while Clark ended the evening with 11 kills, and 15 digs for her own double-double, and setter Melissa Spaulding (Fairbanks, Alaska) tallied 27 assists, and 13 digs for a double-double. Jessica Menges (Old Forge, N.Y.) tallied 10 digs and two kills.
Kat Guillotte led the Monks with 14 digs, while Cailin Fredrickson added a team-best six kills and 12 digs.
Game Two: Saint Joseph's 3 – Maine Maritime Academy 0 (25-11, 25-8, 25-17)
The Monks used six-straight points to pick up the 25-11 first set win, and scored 14-straight points to grab the 25-8 second set win. The Mariners point together a three-point run highlighted by two Melissa Spaulding aces, but fell 25-17 in the third set.
O'Neal led the Mariners with five kills, Spaulding and Molly Marcotte (Woonsocket, R.I.) each recorded 13 digs each.
Felicia Wachowiak tallied a game-high 11 kills, while Jennelle Thomspon recorded an impressive 27 digs.
The Mariners improve to 17-12 overall and will travel to Colby-Sawyer College next weekend to take on Castleton in Match 2 of the NAC Semifinals on Friday, November 6.
