Box Score MIDDLETOWN, R.I. -- James Ferrar (Cumberland, Maine) led Maine Maritime Academy with 101 rushing yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns as the Mariners fell to Salve Regina University on Saturday afternoon, 49-14 in New England Football Conference action.
The Seahawks scored on their opening possession, putting together an 8-play 64-yard drive, resulting in a Sam Pascale 2-yard touchdown run. Andrew Verre's extra point was good, putting Salve Regina ahead 7-0.
Both teams went three-and-out on their next drives, before the Mariners orchestrated a 10-play 85-yard drive, capped off with a 5-yard touchdown run by Ferrar, and a Chad Martin (Fairfield, Maine) extra point, to tie things up at 7-7.
Salve Regina responded with 21 points in both the second and third quarters to take a 49-7 lead into the fourth. Jeddy Doyon (Hampden, Maine) recovered a fumble to give the Mariners excellent field position at the Seahawk's 12-yard line. Ferrar added his second touchdown of the day, this time a one-yard run, followed by another Martin extra point to close the deficit to 49-14 in the fourth quarter.
The Seahawks hung out to take the victory, improving to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the New England Football Conference, while the Mariners fall to 2-6 overall and 1-5 in NEFC play.
Quarterback Michael Fahey (Union, Conn.) accounted for 79 of the Mariners' 258 rushing yards, on 19 carries, and Jacob Doolan (Fairfield, Maine) added 63 yards on nine carries, including a long run of 28 yards.
Brandan Basil led the Seahawks offensively with 239 passing yards on 20 completions, and three touchdowns. Sam Pascale led the rushing attack with 120 yards on 24 carries and three touchdowns, while Mitch Graziano tallied 71 yards on six catches and a touchdown.
Defensively Cody Chapman (Bangor, Maine) led the Mariners with nine tackles (5 solo), including two tackles for a loss. Justin Lovely (West Gardiner, Maine) and Zachary Faskianos (York, Maine) added eight tackles each, and Faskianos added 2.5 tackles for a loss and a sack.
Nathan Gonzalez and Danny Ives led the Seahawks with six tackles each.
The Mariners will take on Nichols College next Saturday, November 14 in their final game of the regular season.
