Box Score CASTINE, Maine-- Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball fell to Bowdoin College, 84-54 in non-conference action inside of Smith Gymnasium on Tuesday night.
The Polar Bears jumped out to a 16-0 lead, and despite a Maine Maritime 8-3 run midway through the first half, Bowdoin took a 49-20 lead into the intermission.
Bowdoin's Matt Palecki led all players in the first half with 17 points, while Brendan Newcomb (Holden, Maine) and Tyler Thayer (Hermon, Maine) led the Mariners with six points each.
Newcomb opened up the second half with a three, but the Polar Bears answered right back with a three of their own from Jack Simonds. In the second half, the Mariners held Bowdoin to just 41.9 percent from the floor, while shooting 43.3 percent, but fell 84-54.
Newcomb led the Mariners with 17 points, two rebounds, two assists and a steal, while Thayer recorded 13 points, six rebounds and three steals. Tyler Gilson (Thomaston, Maine) and Dylan Price (Madison, Maine) each pulled down seven boards.
Palecki led Bowdoin with 17 points, four rebounds, an assist and a block, while Simonds grabbed 12 points, eight rebounds, three assists and a steal, and Jake Donnelly added 10 points, three rebounds, three assists and a steal.
Maine Maritime falls to 2-4 overall, while the Polar Bears improve to 4-3. The Mariners return to action on Friday, when they host New England College at 7:30 pm.
